Fiona calls for Oyster card and better rail services

Fiona has tabled a question to the Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond MP, asking him to agree to extend the Oyster card touch travel payment system to Slough Station.

Fiona said: "I met Philip Hammond eight weeks ago to press for improvements to our local rail services.  Since then I have received commitments from First Great Western for improved carriages on our route and have seen one of the new carriages for myself".

"I have also met Crossrail to discuss my fears that  that the introduction of their service will mean slower journeys to London for Slough passengers."

"But on 16 March when I gave Slough's businesses a chance to put their concerns directly to the Secretary of State.  Joanne Wright, President of Slough Chamber of Commerce pressed for the extension of the Oyster card scheme to Slough.  I have written to the minister to follow up this demand but have yet to receive any response.  I know concerns we raised about the frequency of fast trains and direct services to Heathrow will take time to decide but I do not think there is any reason for further delay in deciding whether we can have the Oyster card in Slough."

"That is why I have asked this question."
