Fiona and local shop keeper stand up for Palestinian people

Fiona and local shop keeper, Sabar Hussain, joined forces this week to stand in solidarity against the sale of produce in Britain grown in Israeli settlements which have been built in the West Bank in contravention of international law.  The West Bank is Palestinian land that was invaded by Israel in 1967, and has been subject to military occupation ever since. Many shops in the UK sell fruits, dates and herbs from illegally occupied territories, and often these goods are labeled produce of Israel.

Speaking at the Sabar Bros store in Wexham Road, Fiona said: "If people want to show their solidarity with Palestinians and their objection to illegal settlements one way is to buy Palestinian produce, in order to help the Palestinian economy, and to refuse to buy items grown in illegally occupied territories. I am grateful to Sabar for helping this campaign by refusing to stock goods from Israel and the occupied territories.

I am encouraging other local shops to take the same stand. But shoppers can also do the same by always looking at the goods they buy."

The movement of the Palestinian population in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is strictly controlled and severely limited. According to the Trade Union Council and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Israeli occupying power prevents the export of nearly all Palestinian goods and Palestinian workers in the settlements are exploited and child labour is used.

Sabar Hussain is the owner of the 'Sabar Bros' stores in Villiers Road and Wexham Road in Slough.
