Fiona has called on health ministers to help Wexham Park Hospital overcome difficulties which have been caused by past poor leadership.

Speaking in Health Questions in the House of Commons earlier today, she welcomed the resignation of Dr Tim Lincoln who was Chair of the Board at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital Trust and urged ministers to use their powers to help the hospital to move on from the problems that previous poor management has caused.

Fiona said: "I have learnt in the period I have been MP for Slough that leadership is key in the health sector.  I hope that following a period of inadequate governance, our hospital can move on with a new leadership team focusing on what is important to local people: quality healthcare.  I am in touch with Monitor who have been trenchant in their criticisms of the past. I hope we can now leave that behind us and make a strong future for our local hospital under new management and leadership."

Fiona regularly visits the hospital. Her last visit, two weeks ago, was to the pre-assessment unit where she helped to decorate the patient waiting room with a group of volunteers. Two weeks earlier, she toured wards with the new Director of Nursing and a group of Ward Matrons.  "I was pleased to see the determination to improve patient care which was exhibited by staff when I visited," said Fiona.  "I think that determination is what we need to make sure that Wexham comes out of this able to provide a really high quality service to local people."
